In optics, a convex lens is thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges, causing parallel light rays to converge at a focal point, forming real or virtual images depending on the object's position. A concave lens is thinner in the middle and thicker at the edges, causing parallel light rays to diverge, always forming a virtual, reduced image.
