Description
The bell in bell jar experiment demonstrates that sound requires a medium to travel. By placing an electric bell inside a sealed bell jar and then evacuating the air, the sound from the bell gradually fades and eventually becomes inaudible, even though the bell continues to operate. This occurs because sound waves cannot propagate through a vacuum.
